This was an exercise in expressions.
Here is a study for an oil painting I want to get hung on the wall in my new place.

I am working on changing my style and simplifying things. Here is my progress.

Another birthday coming up so I changed the hair and the face a little bit and cooled down the background so the red draws out the characters more.

In my quest to break my bad habit of painting too dark I am spending more time turning the saturation down as I paint. As you can see its changes quite a bit from the last post.
I figure another 10 hours will do it for this painting.

Gravity

I attempted to get this done for Illustration Friday but lack of sleep has stolen my cognitive capabilities. Anyway here is my progress.

Underwater Treasure

"Kaia was diving in tropical waters when she discovered it! It shimmered and glistened in the light as she wondered how to get it up to the boat before anyone discovered her secret."

Boy Baptism

Here is the image I did for the boys.

Old cat lady

Here it is! I still want to add cats in the car but I have to move on to other projects at the moment.
Now I'm crossing my fingers that it will print well.

I did an all-nighter to try to get this done but someone decided to wake up earlier than I expected. I spent close to 8 hours working on this from my last post.  I think I will be done in another two hours. I need to do the skin, finish the van, add more cats in the van, and clean up. I can't wait to see how this will print!

I have worked on this for 3.5 hours from the last post.
I am working on getting better color in my work, and to help me along I have been looking at Scott Christensen's landscapes. I had one of his paintings open on my second screen and have been trying to pick the colors I see from his painting. I think this has helped out quite a bit and really like where this is going.
Here Scott Christensen's website.

I want to get this piece done quickly. I have just used my color study and added a flat color over the top at about 35% opacity. I did this to unify the painting more. After this step I am going to use a texture brush and just paint on a normal layer and slowly build up paint on this underpainting.
I'm curious how my process will change over time, so I have decided since I really like the way this painting is going I will document it here.
Here is the color study that I will use for the finished piece.
I completed 3 color studies, which took a little under an hour to do all three.

This charming gal is taking her cats out for a stroll.
Judging from the stickers on the back of her car she must be from Utah.

Here is the final! I'll sleep on this and probably add some little things but this is the main idea.
I'm not yet convinced if I want a quote on it or not, but it's something that can easily be removed.
I hope the kids like these. I will be changing the head for the boys, to make it more personable to them.
Anyways hope you like it.

I did a color study (bottom) on my kindle which took about 30 mins.
I have spent 2 hours on the top image. I know I would not be this far along if it were not for the color study. Looking at the colors I was able to better see what worked and what didn't, allowing me to tweak some colors to make it more harmonious. I am really happy with the way this painting is going and can't wait to finish it tomorrow.

Here is the first oil painting I have done in a long time. It was quite the challenge to figure out how to fit everything in that was wanted. I think I have gotten a better handle on oil paints, and learned a lot by painting and wiping off the ground at least 5 times. I think I had the most success with the cows, which were the quickest thing to paint go figure. Anyway it was a ton of fun to do a finished piece in oil and really want to try out another one soon.
I know a lot of kids getting baptized this year. So I decided to do a painting on it here is my sketch and color study I did on my Kindle.

Here is the color study for the splash screen. I did this on my kindle with the brightness turned way down to it might be a bit jarring and bright (if your monitor is set up like mine anyway). Doing this is a great help now i can see i want my grass to be a bit more orange. Come to think of it everything should have an orangeness to it. That way the sky would be a bit more desaturated and the green color of the trees and the grass wont hurt your eyes so much. Anyway I'll be throwing this in to Illustrator soon and should have something done soon (pending approval).

Here is what I worked on tonight for the "Promised Land of Zarahemla" game. This would be the splash screen that would show up while its loading up. I know its not very apparent here but the girl will be holding vegetables. I cant wait to get this approved and throw it in illustrator and ink/paint it.

I have been creating characters for a game! These characters will be part of a tower defense like sequence of the game. These guys will have an assortment of weapons (2 each) and they will be animated. Finally I get to animate something no matter how basic it will be.
To get what I have here I filled 20 plus pages in my sketchbook with multiple variations. I finally came to the conclusion that the attackers will have "sinister" like headdresses while the defenders will have more of a protective type of creature on their heads.
